A downloadable game for Windows

The Malevolent is an unfinished game I developed back in 2017. It was created and submitted as a final project for one of my early game development classes and has never seen the light of day since. I recently re-discovered it on my hard drive and decided it should be available to play and experience.

As stated above, it is unfinished. It is missing some audio as well as some extra features that were originally planned but cut due to time constraint. You may experience some bugs, but overall it is a running game that can be completed in about 10-15 minutes or less.

* I DO ENCOURAGE EXPLORATION*

There are areas of the level that can be bypassed, still allowing the game to be completed. Explore to see all enemies and scares

This game was heavily inspired by the Resident Evil series. From the gameplay to the in game items, and even the sound cue when starting a new game, the influence is very obvious.

The game controls like any other typical FPS:

Mouse - Aim

WASD - Move

Left Shift - Sprint

Left Click - Shoot

Left Crtl - Aim Down Sights

R - Reload

P - Pickup

F - Flashlight On/Off

H - Heal

Esc - Pause

1/2 - Switch Weapons

As a student demo it has soft locks that mostly come from the lack of a melee option. The rest of my critiscm is heresy considering it's a super old project that you fished out of the data stream. With a proper crosshair, or just more ammo picks ups this could be a really enjoyable 10 minute romp through spooky house. However as it stands it feels "off' due to the lack of proper audio prompts.

Thank you for the feedback! Looking back, I do realize there not nearly enough ammo pickups and you can easily get stuck if you run out of ammo in the wrong area. Adding a melee option (and more ammo) is a really good idea to solve that. If I ever consider making a follow up, I will definitely keep that in mind.

Gave it a play, got a good scare or 2 out of me too. The controls seemed a bit weird with P and Tab for ADS, but it wasn't bad for a free game.

I appreciate the play through and video! I do agree with the controls, this was created for a school project when I first started developing games and I definitely didn’t think the controls through. Lol. Not planning on doing any updates but I may go back in and fix those!
